MONNULA
A doll sets out on a journey.
It passes from hand to hand.
From home to home.
From one territory to another.
No one controls the route.
No one foresees it.
The journey is written in the encounter.
Each gesture leaves a mark.
Each passage changes the story.
DESCRIPTION
Monnula, muñecas que migran is a project set in motion by the displacement of a doll and its travel notebook across different territories.
The dolls are handmade by women of the Comcaác community in Punta Chueca, Mexico, and they embark on an open journey whose destination remains undetermined.
Each person who receives a doll becomes its temporary host and decides its next destination. In that passage a network of affective relationships is woven, connecting the doll's cultural origin with those who receive it and with those yet to come.
The notebook that accompanies each doll gathers traces of that journey: texts, drawings, records and experiences. Through this device, the work proposes a cartography built from encounter, where the journey is sustained by desire, affect and transmission.
