BORDANDO DESDE EL SUR

A set of textiles embroidered by the Cubas family in Montevideo, August 2015

The world is affectively interconnected; that is the best retaining wall against injustice, Luis Cubas.

Following Tamara Cubas's trip to Mexico City in June of this year, where she encountered the embroideries made by relatives and citizens seeking to make visible the murders and forced disappearances, and following as well her conversations in Montevideo with Verónica Cordeiro, Tamara invited her family to gather and embroider handkerchiefs and textiles that, as a gesture of solidarity, could be sent to Mexican civil society.

The long letter sent by Elsa Cubas was completed in Mexico with the collaboration of: Cordelia Rizzo, Elia and Tania Andrade, Magdalena Leite, Aníbal Conde, Rocío Cárdenas, Daniela Carro, Nadia Lartigue, Helena Bastos, Gisela Cortés, Alicia Pérez, Evelin Meza, Amarilis Pérez Vera, Yohayna Hernández, María Cerdá, Sofía and Leonardo Aguilera, Gastón Alzate, Paola Marín, Carmen Lechuga, Eduardo Bernal, Tamara Cubas and Ileana Diéguez.
