BALANCEO AL CENTRO

Moving across the territories of creation, Tamara Cubas, artist and choreographer, researches the terrain of memory and the recent past of her family territory, and therefore of a collective one. Her work of recent years sits at the point of tension between several generations, probing notions such as –"The Collective, the Homeland and the idea of the Future".  In this process she uses materials from the period, such as newspapers, publications and family letters, but she also involves her family in producing together.

In this way Cubas generates diverse formats out of experiences that are secondhand yet close, and also out of her own relationship with the subject.  Some of the works born from this process are "Actos de Amor Perdidos" (stage work, 2010) and "El día mas hermoso" (exhibition, 2012).  Balanceo al Centro is a performative action conceived for the occasion, setting certain national symbols in tension within the physical and symbolic space of the main venue of the Montevideo Biennial.
